Special Celebration of Jewish Learning in Baku
Strengthening Community Infrastructure Through Volunteer Education and Leadership Training
September 2025: Following the remarkable success of the main conference, and as part of the strategic preparation process for the next Limmud FSU event in Azerbaijan, a large-scale volunteer enrichment and leadership seminar was held in Baku in September 2025. The seminar brought together members of the expanding local volunteer network and served as an important step in strengthening the long-term sustainability and growth of Jewish communal life in the region.
The seminar focused on two central educational and leadership components. The first component was dedicated to the organization, facilitation, and meaningful presentation of the Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah ceremonies within the framework of Limmud FSU events. Participants deepened their understanding of Jewish traditions, values, and communal practices, while also receiving practical training and leadership tools that would enable them to independently organize and lead these important elements during future conferences and community activities.
The second major component focused on Holocaust remembrance and the legacy of the Righteous Among the Nations. Through educational discussions and interactive sessions, participants broadened their historical knowledge, explored questions of Jewish memory and identity, and strengthened their personal connection to Jewish heritage and communal responsibility. This educational track played a significant role in reinforcing Jewish identity among young volunteers and future community leaders in Azerbaijan.
As the seminar took place shortly before Rosh Hashanah, it also included a festive communal holiday celebration, creating a meaningful atmosphere of unity, continuity, and shared Jewish identity among participants. Beyond its educational content, the seminar further strengthened the local volunteer infrastructure and leadership base that continues to play a key role in the growing success and impact of Limmud FSU activities in Azerbaijan.
