What is Limmud?

Limmud is a dynamic, pluralistic gathering of Jewish learning. For over 25 years, Limmud seminars and conferences around the globe from Canada to Australia, Switzerland and Turkey, as well as Israel, have been attracting Jews of all ages and backgrounds, Jews who have studied Jewish subjects and those who have very little knowledge about exciting, intense learning experiences.

Built on a unique model, seminars, lectures, workshops and discussions focus on an enormous range of topics from social and political trends within Jewish communities and around the world to Israeli politics; from dilemmas to Jewish cooking; from traditional texts to Yiddish theater.

Some of the lecturers are prominent academics and journalists; others talk about their hobbies and inspire others with their enthusiasm. Presenters of one topic become participants in workshops on other topics. All participants are equal; all choose the topics of interest to themselves and select the sessions they wish to attend. All organizers, lecturers and presenters are volunteers.

Limmud FSU

Limmud FSU brings together and empowers Jewish young adults who are reviving and revitalizing the Jewish community and culture in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Limmud FSU seeks to restore the tradition of lifelong Jewish learning and strengthen Jewish identity. We hope this success model and continuing effort will ensure a vibrant and sustainable Jewish future in the FSU both through the educational opportunities it will provide and through the leadership training experience it includes.

Limmud FSU has been organized by a group of volunteers, with the exception of security, catering and logistics. And, most of the lecturers are drawn from Jewish activists and the academic field in the FSU. In the spirit of Limmud, all give their time as volunteers; none are paid.

Built on the experience of an international group of volunteer Jewish leadership, working in close partnership with Limmud FSU Jewish volunteer leaders, Limmud FSU 2008 promises a rich education experience for the community by the community.
